DIY Jewelry Draw Inserts

Ok, so my house isn’t very large. It is perfect for me, but I don’t have a lot of storage space. I had a large plastic 3 drawer Tupperware thingy from walmart that I was using to store all my jewelry, nail polish and lotion. I hated it. It was white and ugly and did not go with my decorating scheme. So, I decided go through my clothes and consolidate or donate anything that I hadn’t worn in over a year. After that was done I had 2 (no joke!) dresser drawers that were empty. After some brain-storming, pinterest searching and googling, I took a trip to Lowes!Items used:

  1. ply wood base
  2. Wood strips
  3. matting
  4. material
  5. glue gun & glue
  6. Ribbon
  7. Table Saw

Step 1 – Taking Measurements of your drawers.

Once you have the measurements of your drawer, as well as how wide you want the inserts to be. Cut the boards to match. I wanted everything to be removable, but still stand up in the drawer. I had to cut the pieces exactly right or else they would not fit or stand up.

Step 2 – Glue on Ribbons, Batting and Material.

I glued ribbon to the underside of the baseboard. I was not making this a permanent fixture in the drawers. I wanted everything to be removable incase I needed to use the drawers for something else in the future. Once the baseboard is dropped into the bottom of the drawer it would be very hard to take out. So I looped ribbon on all 4 sides that will stick up when placed in the drawer. I then glued some batting to the top of the baseboard. I did NOT go over the sides with the batting. If I would have the baseboard would not have fit in the bottom of the drawer. Once the batting is glued on then I covered it with my material. This I did go over the sides. I folded it over and glued it to the underside of the baseboard.

Step 3 – Place the inserts in the drawer.

Once everything was glued and looking great, I placed the baseboard into the drawer and then started placing the inserts where I wanted them to go!!!
